That SUCKED! *Added Splits*

Ok, so...I was suppose to run yesterday, but I forgot that I was hosting book club at my house and that usually runs pretty late so I pretty much knew it wasn't going to happen. Not to mention that I stuffed my face ate quite a bit of food at the meeting so I wasn't going to try and run on an over full stomach. I was telling my girl friends in book club how I was suppose to run and that since I knew I wasn't going to do that I was at least going to try and walk...but everyone stayed until after 10pm and I was convinced that I wasn't even going to walk. However, as everyone was leaving my friend Jessi asked if I wanted to go walk and that she would go with me! So away we went down my dead end dirt road at 10:30 at night...and after Jessi herself had told us a story from the news about a "zombie" man who ate another man's face off!!! So I think we get extra points for bravery, although a dog kept howling and at first we couldn't tell what it was...and of course Jessi has to suggest that it sounds like it could be someone yelling! So we paused for a moment and were very close to booking it back to my house...but we realized it was a dog and continued on our way. So I at least got my Crim training workout in last night.

Tonight, I was determined to do day 1 of week 2 of the Couch 2 5k program...even though it was raining and cold outside. David (my husband) told me I'd better wear warm clothes and my rain coat. I wasn't too thrilled about the rain coat because I was afraid I wouldn't be able to hear my Garmin beeping when I needed to start/stop running (the stopping part is the most important), but I obeyed and put on a pair of sweat pants, my sweat wicking shirt I got for being a part of the Crim training program, a hoodie, and my raincoat. I was roasting before I even stepped out the door.

I hadn't eaten for a couple hours but I could still feel the food sitting in my stomach, like high in my stomach, and that worried me since I knew I was going to be adding 30 seconds to my runs and I HATE to throw up (like anyone really enjoys it, right?), not to mention that after having three kids...throwing up causes other...well, women who have had babies probably know what I'm getting at, and if you don't know what I'm getting at post and comment and I'll elaborate in a reply. ; ) So anyways, I wasn't feeling great right from the get go and the weather was less than stellar so I got to the first 90 second run (BTW, I had been thinking that week 2 was a 90 run/60 walk ratio, but I was wrong...its 90/120...much better) and my sweat pants started to fall down and then I realized that I had forgotten to stretch beforehand!!! So I stopped my Garmin...and at that very moment I had two thoughts simultaneously...1)That there was no way I could do six 90 second runs, let alone ONE...and 2) I was going to turn around and just go home. I stretched a little and hiked up my pants and then I did NOT turn around and go home, but re-started my Garmin and continued running the rest of the 90 seconds!!! Amazing, right??? Well, I think so. It was AWFUL though and I really thought I was going to puke...overactive glands and all...YUCK...but I didn't puke!!! I continued on to the next run and the next run until I was done running!!! It seemed to go be pretty fast and then I had the remaining two minute walk before the four minute cool down (to make it a 30 minute workout).  Now, you would think that I would've walked those last 6 minutes and been super freakin' happy to do it...but I felt guilty that I had paused during my first run so I RAN three 10 second bursts to make up for the time I had paused. Seems pretty BAD ASS, right? WRONG...just ASS is more like it. I pulled something in my right thigh during those 10 second bursts which I ran faster than I had been running my 90 second runs...just a silly thing to do. I don't think it's anything that will affect me later (sure hope not) but its something I could have avoided.

So it was the CRAPPIEST run I've ever had...out of the four I've had. lol What is awesome about it though, is that even with the crappy weather, feeling crappy, my crappy sweat pants (which I cinched super tight after that first 90 second run and didn't have anymore problems with), and my crappy idea to run fast at the end I FINISHED!!! I ran all six 90 second runs and LIVED!!! That's pretty awesome to me!!! : )

Here is a picture of me after my CRAPPY run! That smile is real, although hard to muster, but its real because I was so proud of myself that I DID IT!!!

I had my third group training session today. We walked 4 miles. We gained about 8 new members who were transferred over from different groups. Its become apparent to me that I could move up to a faster paced group but I love the people in my group and since I've started doing the C25K training I'm not too worried about pushing myself super hard on group training day so I'm going to stay with my group. A few of us went out to Mongolian Barbecue afterwards for dinner. We had a good time and I'm looking forward to our group session next week. Its a step back week for us so we'll be walking 3.5 miles.

I'm still undecided on what I'm going to do for my Couch 2 5k training. I was talking with my good friend Kari today about it and my fear that I would not be able to complete 8 - 90 second runs. She gave me the idea that I could alter the program a little and have like a half step week this week where I would do 4 intervals of running 90 seconds and walking 60 seconds but then for the second 4 intervals drop back to the 60 second run and 90 second walk. I could always just repeat week one all over again...but I don't want to feel like I'm not pushing myself I guess I'll be a surprise what I decide.

What do you guys think? Should I move on without alterations, repeat week one, or do a half step week? Just curious what you're thoughts are.

Hope everyone enjoyed their Tuesday! : )

Couch 2 5K Week 1 Day 3

I'm sure you're getting bored already just reading about my training experiences, but that's what I'm concentrating on right now so that's what I'm writing about. I'll try and post about other things to when I have something else to talk about. : )

I woke up this morning feeling yucky. My whole family has passed around this 24 hour cold and/or flu thing and I was last on the list to get it. I was really hoping that it would pass me by, but no such luck, so I was worried about my workout tonight and whether or not I'd be able or willing to do it. My nose got stuffier and stuffier as the day went on and my joints began to ache. Luckily though, by the time 9:30 rolled around I was able to breathe out of my nose and I was actually really looking forward to doing my workout.

I was determined to have a faster pace today than I did Friday and I was pretty confident that I was accomplishing that. It was beautiful out, the air was cool with a nice breeze and the sky was clear...which I was also worried about today because the weather kept switching between rainy and stormy, to sunny, hot, and humid, but by the time I was ready to go out it was clear again. My first three 60 second runs went by pretty quickly. I knew I was running faster because it was harder to keep my breathing even and my heart rate was around 170 as opposed to 145-150 the last two workouts. The 4th run was kind of difficult, the 5th was even more difficult, and after the 6th I really didn't think I was going to be able to do two more runs!!! The 7th was the seemed like it lasted forever and I had a really hard time keeping my breathing even. Surprisingly though when it came time to do the last run I had psyched myself up for it, and it also helped that before I had even left my house I had told myself that my goal tonight was to finish strong, since I seemed to peter out the last two times at the end. I kept my pace up and then when I heard my Garmin beeping, signaling the final 5 seconds of the run...I GUNNED IT...or gunned it for probably would've looked pretty slow to someone watching. : ) I was so proud of myself and couldn't wait to get home and see what my splits were. I sat on my front porch with my husband for a few minutes and he was asking me how my walk was, what was my time, pace, etc. and I just kept thinking that he has to have some idea that I may be running because my times are getting faster and I'm 'walking' farther (he's a runner) so I said "Do you want to know why my time is 'so fast'"? and he said "Why? Oh, by the way, I read your blog today." So he already knew that I was out running, not walking...he's such a dork! I told him that I don't want him to pester me about it all the time, because it'll just make me mad. lol

I'm sure you're all dying to see my splits, right? Right?

: ) I WAS FASTER!!! Now I just need to decide whether or not to move on to week 2 of C25K training or do another three workouts on the week one schedule. I don't want to overdo it since I am still training for the Crim 10 mile walk, but I also don't want to not push myself. I'm really not sure if I could finish eight 90 second runs though, if I'm struggling to finish eight 60 second runs. I have a couple days to decide since tomorrow is my ONLY rest day and Tuesday I have my group training for the Crim...4 miles on the schedule this week...guess we'll'll be a surprise. ; )

Hope everyone is having a great weekend and Happy Memorial Day tomorrow. Be sure to thank all those who fight/have fought for our freedom! I may not support our war(s) but I support our TROOPS!!! You are all amazing people!!!

Couch 2 5K Week 1 Day 2 *Updated with Splits*

So, I'm sure you're all wondering if I did it, right? Well, I DID!!! : )
Did I stink to high heaven again? YES
Did things go as planned? NO

My plan was to go in to Anytime Fitness where I have a year membership that I haven't used since April, but I couldn't find my key tag to get in. It was already dark which was one reason why I was planning on going into the gym instead of running down the road. The other reason was the holiday weekend getting kicked off and all of the visiting people down our road. We live very close to a large lake. I didn't want to have to run down the road and have an inebriated person back out of a driveway and hit me or have an inebriated person see me running and decide to comment. I know, I'm a worrier...I worry about the stupidest things ALL THE TIME. I comfort myself in knowing that my very good friend Kari is worse. : )

Well, I couldn't find my key tag (found it this morning though, go figure) so I had to do my workout outside, down a country dirt road, in the dark! It was nice and cool outside though which I was grateful for. I was worried about not being able to see the road in front of me. I didn't want to trip and fall or twist my ankle so I stayed more towards the middle of the road. Now for the surprising part...I actually really enjoyed running in the dark! It was awesome! Its hard to describe, but it was peaceful, yet I could hear so much going on, like the boats on the water, the wind rustling through the trees, frogs, crickets...sprinklers...these scared me for a few seconds because I couldn't figure out what the noise was.

My first 60 second run was AMAZING!!! I felt really good and like I just said I loved the dark. I think I may run in the dark from now on, although I will make sure that I get some kind of reflective clothing so that, on the off chance someone passes me, they will be able to see me. I only saw one set of headlights during my 30 minute workout and they turned into a driveway before they got to me. I felt like I was going faster than Wednesday, but when I got home and loaded the workout onto Garmin Connect I saw that I was actually slower. I even made a conscious effort to slow down on my last three runs because I was worried that I was going too fast both to have the stamina to finish the runs and to not hurt myself.

I'm thinking that I will run in the dark again on Sunday...although I'm still worried that the holiday partiers (is that a word? My spell checker says no) will be out and about all inebriated and bother me in some way. Guess we'll see.

Now to discuss my HORRIBLE weigh in. 236 FREAKING POUNDS!!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised with all of the cupcakes, tortillas, and snacks that I have consumed since my daughters birthday party. I guess I thought the exercise would offset all that...apparently not. I really need to gain some self control when it comes to food. Its ridiculous and makes me so mad, because I'd like to think that I'm a relatively intelligent woman, and I know that eating the junk is bad for me and will NOT aid in my weight loss...but when that cupcake, ice cream, or whatever junk is in front of me I completely lose all of my common sense. I know I'm not the only one to have this issue and unfortunately those who figure out how to keep their common sense in the face of food temptation cannot explain to those of us who can't keep it, how to do so. All I can do is keep trying. The worst thing I could do is give up because of my failures. Its a new week (weight loss challenge week), and I'm just going to keep on trying to get myself on track...though the holiday weekend is NOT going to be helping me with that at all!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! : )

Couch 2 5K Week 1 Day 1

Did I really just do that??? Did I just run a total of EIGHT WHOLE FREAKING MINUTES!!!??? YES

Do I still stink to high heaven as I sit here and write this post??? YES lol

What I feel like mentally after my first C25K workout

What I feel like physically
(Cannot believe I posted a picture of myself looking like

Ok, I'm just going to start at the beginning and go from there. I WAS super excited to start this...every time I would go out to walk I would think to myself "I would love to just start running right now" (I know, absurd thought). Well, that excitement turned to nervousness as soon as I stepped out the door. I was thinking 'Why the hell am I doing this...I don't want to RUN!!!'...but then my Garmin started to beep, counting down the last 5 seconds before I had my first 60 seconds of running. 'OH SHIT!!!' *Now I would like to add that I seriously thought about waiting until it was dark to attempt this workout because I did not want to be seen by ANYONE! I do however live out in the country on a road with no outlet so I thought that there couldn't possibly be that many people out in their yards at the precise moment I was going to have to RUN by, all my fat bouncing as I went. But wouldn't you know it there was a woman (better a woman than a man) mowing her lawn right around the spot where I was going to be running my first 60 seconds...and she wasn't way back up by her house mowing...she was mowing the very front edge of her yard, even having to turn around in the road, so she was going to get a nice up close and personal look at me as I attempted my first 60 second run! YIPPY!!! I chose not to look at her as I huffed by and before I knew it my watch was beeping again signifying the end of my first run! It was by no means easy, but the time went by faster than I thought, and that happened again for the next few intervals, but then I messed myself up. I was thinking that I only had six 60 second runs until my watch beeped again and I realized that I actually had TWO MORE RUNS to do!!! Let me tell you, people aren't kidding when they say that running is mostly mental...because I wasn't mentally prepared for those last two runs they were HORRIBLE...but I did them! Then I did a 5 minute cool down walk. The Couch 2 5K program states 20-30 minute workouts, but since I'm incorporating this into my Crim Fitness Training Program I will be doing (after this week) 45 minute workouts. I won't be running more (God no), I'll just have a longer warm up and/or cool down.
So there you have it folks, my first C 2 5K workout run down. I have no idea how I'm going to do it again tomorrow (Friday). I just have an easy walk on the schedule for today so I probably won't bore you with a run down of that...unless something spectacular happens.

A couple notes...

I started writing this post last night after I got back from my workout, but I finished it this I did not go to bed 'stinking to high heaven'. Just thought I should point that out.

Also, I did NOT tell my husband that I started the Couch 2 5K program. I want that to be a if any of my family and/or friends are reading this blog please don't mention it in front of him or post anything about it on my facebook wall. Thanks. : )

Have a wonderful Thursday...I'll be trying to continue to potty train my late bloomer 3 year old son today...wish me luck!

Time to focus

This last week was crazy! I only did two days of my Crim training homework. In my defense...I was unpacking, cleaning, and organizing my house the other days so I guess I could consider that my cross-training. : ) Friday's weigh in went well, I finally had a number other than 234!!! I still think I'm at this number? mmmm...probably not! My daughters first birthday party was on Sunday, complete with cupcakes, ice cream, potato salad, etc. which all stayed at my house when everyone left. So I've been pigging out eating the leftovers since then. I just hope I don't see 234 lbs. again this Friday. I'm planning on incorporating the Couch to 5k training into my Crim training 'homework' starting this week. We'll see how that goes.

I had my second group training session tonight. We walked three miles in about an hour. The time passed really quickly. I wish I could give you my stats from my Garmin, BUT, me...the genius...didn't charge it ahead of time and the thing died about 2 miles in. : ( I felt really bad because I'm the only one in the group with a GPS training watch that tells us how far we've gone and many of my group members were asking me what our final time and distance was and I couldn't tell them. I'll make sure to charge it for next week.

I am so glad last week is OVER!!! However, it is bittersweet because my baby girl's first birthday has now passed. : ( My niece also had her first birthday this past weekend, on Saturday (my niece and my daughter were born 19 hours and 19 minutes apart) I am so thankful that all of the stress, running, and sleepless nights are over though. I will of course share a couple pictures with you so that you can see what a total cutie pie she is!

I should be posting more now that I'm not preoccupied with planning a party. I hope everyone had a great Tuesday! : )

Isn't she just the cutest baby you've ever seen??? I guess I may be a little biased! ; )

Busy Busy Busy AGAIN apparently...

*After posting this I realized I already had a post titled Busy Busy Guess I'm pretty busy!

Can't believe its been a whole week since I posted last...and it'll probably be another week before I post again. My daughter Isabel turns one this Sunday! We are having her party here at our new house, which seemed like such a great idea BEFORE we moved in. Now I'm wishing I hadn't done that to myself! We are not unpacked completely and the house is a disaster! Every time I start to think about what all I need to accomplish this week I have a mini anxiety attack! Getting everything party related ready is enough in itself, but when I think about the fact that I have to get the house ready FIRST...I just don't know how I'm going to get it all done. My Mom is coming to stay for a couple of days to help me get ready...thank God! I not only have all of my own stuff to do this week, but my grandfather needs help with transportation to 3 doctors appointments! Two of which we did yesterday...and took all day! He even walked out of his second appointment after being there for 3 HOURS and had still not seen the doctor! I had been sitting in the van with my kids and Mom the whole time! I felt bad for him, my Mom, and especially my kids. If I had known it would take that long I would have taken them to a park that was nearby to play all that time.

My weigh in last Friday was disappointing...still sitting at 234 lbs.! I'm really starting to HATE  that number...but I have my first group session tonight for the Crim training program so hopefully I'll start dropping some weight. I was looking at my training calendar for the program and apparently I was suppose to start training on Sunday with an "easy walk"...oops...I thought it started today!

Well, I need to go get something done, even though my neck and upper back are now killing me! I think I did something to it last night when I moved some boxes that I had my husband bring in so that I could unpack them. : ( It hurts pretty bad every time I move my head in any direction except to the left...weird!

I had a good Mother's Day. My husband and boys (Isabel was still sleeping...she has a double ear infection...poor baby) woke me up with a breakfast burrito in I've always wanted breakfast in bed, even though I'm not a big breakfast eater, so its no surprise that it wasn't as awesome as I thought it would be. My boys were so cute about it, but I'm not really in the mood to eat before I even have both my eyes open. Of course I had to though, what with a 3 and 5 year old staring expectantly at me with huge smiles on there faces at the edge of the bed. : ) My Mother's Day present was a new Adirondack chair for the front porch and a sweat wicking shirt and shorts for working out! : ) The sizes on the clothes were XL and my husband said that it was the biggest he could find at the store. I wasn't to thrilled to try them on, but he made me and honestly, they didn't look as grotesque bad as I thought they would. It did show off my rolls, but even my husband said I looked smaller wearing the workout clothes than I do in my normal everyday clothes. So I'm thinking of using that outfit as my before/after comparison outfit and I might possibly will post them AFTER I lose a noticeable amount of weight. : )

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday! : )

Haven't really felt like blogging

I didn't fall off the I did, a little...but that's not why I haven't been writing. I just haven't really had much to say...or much that I COULD say on my weight loss blog. There is plenty going on in my 'personal' life, but that's not for this blog. Plus, I haven't gotten any comments on the blog lately, so I figured it didn't really matter to much if I didn't blog. Do my 16 followers still follow me? Just curious...I would really love some feedback every now and again on a question I pose or some encouragement when I'm struggling. That is, after all, why I started this blog. To meet other people going through the same 'fight' I am, to know that I'm not alone, to get a little motivation, encouragement, even scolding. lol I hope this doesn't sound selfish or self-centered...that's not how I want it to come across. How I want it to come across is that...I NEED HELP from others who can relate with what I'm going through and what I'm trying to accomplish. I don't need 8,000 followers, my 16 is just fine...but I'd just like to hear from those 16 every once in awhile. : )

Moving my weigh in last Friday for my weight loss challenge I stayed at 234 lbs. I wasn't on the wagon the previous week so I was actually happy with that number because I was expecting a gain...of course I still had to add a $1.00 to the winner's pot because I saw no change. Oh well, that's ok...I'm gonna win it back anyways. ; )

Tomorrow I'm going to the Crim Pre-training clinic where they will assess me physically BEFORE training. We will then return after training to get our...well...AFTER stats taken to see how we improved over the 12 weeks of training. I'll fill you in on my stats tomorrow night. I'll also update with my body fat percentage as soon as I unpack my

Hope everyone had a great Tuesday!

Smart Asses Unite

I went to the Meet and Greet for the Crim training program last night and my group is AWESOME!!! A few of us went out to eat at Mongolian Barbecue afterwards (the restaurant is one of the sponsors for the training program so we get discounts) and had a lot of fun! There are quite a few smart asses in the group and the laughs just kept on coming. I was very nervous about meeting my group. I was worried that we wouldn't mesh well, or that everyone would be super serious about it all of the time. I am so relieved to know that there are some who will keep the training sessions light. I'm really excited for our first training session, which seems like forever away (a little less than two weeks).

I'm suppose to go out and get fitted for shoes, get a water belt, and a couple sweat wicking (is that right?) shirts...but I really don't have the money for ANY of it. I received the scholarship for a reason, and with just moving into the new house and planning for a concert in a few months all of our expendable money is tied up. I know that I really need to get fitted for a proper pair of shoes though, because I got blisters after walking in the two March of Dimes walks, and I've been told that if you have properly fitting shoes that you should NOT get blisters. The first training session is only 3 miles so I should be ok for that maybe I'll wait another couple weeks before going to get some shoes. Oh, did I mention that the free technical shirt that I received is TOO SMALL!!! Its an XXL, but looks more like a large! Everyone was complaining about it at the meeting. Guess that gives me motivation, right? : )

I hope everyone has a good Thursday!

March of Dimes Walk #2

The weather was so much nicer on Sunday for our second walk! I FORGOT my camera...CANNOT believe it!!! Actually I can believe it, I forget EVERYTHING, ALL THE TIME! If you follow along with me for awhile on this blog I'm sure you'll see just how much! So the only picture we had taken today was the group photo that the volunteer photographer for the March of Dimes took of our team. So, once I'm e-mailed the pictures from both walks I'll post them.

The walking path that was our route on Sunday was very nice and we had some pretty scenery for some of the walk. It was an out-and-back route so we turned around after 2.5 miles and headed back up the same walking path. Luckily we were more towards the end so we didn't have oncoming traffic for too long...that was the only drawback to the route. I started to get a little tired around the 3 mile mark and by the 4 mile marker I was struggling. I really just wanted the walk to be 10 minutes ago...but I trudged ahead. I also wanted to murder my husband because he wanted to go fishing (the walk weekend always falls on the opening weekend of walleye season) so he insisted on speeding up to pass people every 5 minutes! I made it though, but immediately after crossing the finish line and slowing down I started getting dizzy. I hurried over to the food line and got a hot dog, little bag of sun chips (pretty yummy...I had never had the original flavor), and a 12 oz. XXX Vitamin Water (LOVE). The food however did not help my dizziness. I also had another headache come on. We ate and left relatively quickly. We did let the boys play on the playground for a few minutes while I nursed Isabel. I dozed in the car and thankfully David had told our oldest, Jacob, that he would take him fishing with him, so Nathan, Isabel, and I all went down for naps as soon as we got home. I was still very dizzy when I was laying down in bed. Not sure why...maybe just too much all at once.

On a non weight loss related note, we also got to see our good friends new baby girl that evening. We took some pizzas and salad (I wanted to make them a home cooked meal, but I was so wiped out and feeling blah) over to their house and I got to hold their new teeny tiny peanut! She is so sweet! I can't wait to hold her again. She was over 7 lbs. at birth, which was quite a bit bigger than Isabel was, but she looked so tiny! I always forget how little they are.

Ok, back to weight loss related news! : ) I got my Crim training program "virtual packet"! They've "gone green" and stopped giving out paper print out packets. I received the information on what group I'm going to be in and my training schedule for the 14 weeks. I was a little surprised that their is only ONE rest day a week! I mean...I guess I'm just walking, but that kind of surprised me. I'm getting so excited about it though. Tomorrow evening is our meet and greet. I'm looking forward to meeting and getting to know new people! I don't know that I have permission to post the actual training schedule calendar here, so I'll just give you the run down.

Our local news station was at the March of Dimes walk on Sunday and our family actually made it into one of the shots...well, the backs of us anyways. David says its at the 23 second mark. We're in the teal-ish blue shirts with white writing to the left of the screen. : )

Hope everyone has a good Tuesday!
