Couch 2 5K Week 1 Day 2 *Updated with Splits*

So, I'm sure you're all wondering if I did it, right? Well, I DID!!! : )
Did I stink to high heaven again? YES
Did things go as planned? NO

My plan was to go in to Anytime Fitness where I have a year membership that I haven't used since April, but I couldn't find my key tag to get in. It was already dark which was one reason why I was planning on going into the gym instead of running down the road. The other reason was the holiday weekend getting kicked off and all of the visiting people down our road. We live very close to a large lake. I didn't want to have to run down the road and have an inebriated person back out of a driveway and hit me or have an inebriated person see me running and decide to comment. I know, I'm a worrier...I worry about the stupidest things ALL THE TIME. I comfort myself in knowing that my very good friend Kari is worse. : )

Well, I couldn't find my key tag (found it this morning though, go figure) so I had to do my workout outside, down a country dirt road, in the dark! It was nice and cool outside though which I was grateful for. I was worried about not being able to see the road in front of me. I didn't want to trip and fall or twist my ankle so I stayed more towards the middle of the road. Now for the surprising part...I actually really enjoyed running in the dark! It was awesome! Its hard to describe, but it was peaceful, yet I could hear so much going on, like the boats on the water, the wind rustling through the trees, frogs, crickets...sprinklers...these scared me for a few seconds because I couldn't figure out what the noise was.

My first 60 second run was AMAZING!!! I felt really good and like I just said I loved the dark. I think I may run in the dark from now on, although I will make sure that I get some kind of reflective clothing so that, on the off chance someone passes me, they will be able to see me. I only saw one set of headlights during my 30 minute workout and they turned into a driveway before they got to me. I felt like I was going faster than Wednesday, but when I got home and loaded the workout onto Garmin Connect I saw that I was actually slower. I even made a conscious effort to slow down on my last three runs because I was worried that I was going too fast both to have the stamina to finish the runs and to not hurt myself.

I'm thinking that I will run in the dark again on Sunday...although I'm still worried that the holiday partiers (is that a word? My spell checker says no) will be out and about all inebriated and bother me in some way. Guess we'll see.

Now to discuss my HORRIBLE weigh in. 236 FREAKING POUNDS!!! I guess I shouldn't be surprised with all of the cupcakes, tortillas, and snacks that I have consumed since my daughters birthday party. I guess I thought the exercise would offset all that...apparently not. I really need to gain some self control when it comes to food. Its ridiculous and makes me so mad, because I'd like to think that I'm a relatively intelligent woman, and I know that eating the junk is bad for me and will NOT aid in my weight loss...but when that cupcake, ice cream, or whatever junk is in front of me I completely lose all of my common sense. I know I'm not the only one to have this issue and unfortunately those who figure out how to keep their common sense in the face of food temptation cannot explain to those of us who can't keep it, how to do so. All I can do is keep trying. The worst thing I could do is give up because of my failures. Its a new week (weight loss challenge week), and I'm just going to keep on trying to get myself on track...though the holiday weekend is NOT going to be helping me with that at all!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! : )

  1. Excellent job getting out there again! Keep it up and you'll be surprised at how quickly your body adapts. Running, especially interval running, really boosts your metabolism. Makes the whole weight-loss journey just a touch easier. Good luck tonight, and definitely invest in some reflective gear:)

  2. Thanks Leigh! I have another challenge in my way again for tonight...my whole family has been sick, one at a time, and now its my turn. : ( So far I can still breathe out of my nose ok so I should be fine...guess we'll see how the day goes. I'll probably end up doing it anyways, even if I can't breathe...lol...because I can't do it tomorrow or Tuesday.
